You and your friends start from the same place, and you each have a device, and an iphone with the application. Your team breaks away, and goes to the highest part of the city you think you can find. When you get there, you turn on the device, and you hear a high pitch - that's because the device turns a barometric pressure reading into a sound. The higher you are, the higher the pitch.
The height number on the phone changes, and you hit "check-in". Now your opponents know how high you are, and they are intimidated. But now it's your job to widen the gap. Do it two more times.
The game is over, and you've trounced your opponents. You all meet at the bar, open a laptop to Google Earth, and view your accomplishments, and joke about the stories from the game, and all the fun predicaments you got yourselves into.
Urban Alpinist is a "Big Game" to be played in Urban Spaces, by real people. It is the thesis project of C. Anderson Miller.
Using a device for specific height with an iPhone application - urban exploration and climbing is now a game!
On May 6th, 2009 at 5:40pm, this project is being presented as part of the Interactive Telecommunications Program's Thesis Week!
